1 Tappet noise from top end on 23rd October 2013, 5:45 pm

Got the R running again after the rocker was spat off and the pivot was snapped. It was making a tappet noise before it all went wrong. It seemed to have been caused by the fact that the camshaft oil feed pipes were blocked. But they are all clear now and the tapping noise has came back after running it for about 30 minutes or so. Anybody got any suggestions.

Has yours got the factory fitted midget in tap dance shoes or is it the optional extra .... This is a very rare option that very few had from factory but a few owners have acquired then over the years

Just acquired lately. Didn't cost much apart from a headache. Might sell the tap dancing midget on eBay. Is it worth much. Or I would be happy to take an uprated cylinder head and some cash in exchange for mine.

don't run it any more because I reckon you've damaged the thread in the allie head where pivot ball screws in and its worked loose again.

whip the rocker cover off again and check all the pivots etc to make sure that one or none of the others are loose or you could cause some real damage

It's only been run about 30 minutes since I got it running again and mostly on tickover. Didn't have the torque setting for the pivot so I just guessed. I never even thought to check the rest of them. I was to busy thinking about what damage it might have done running without the exhaust valve opening. I had visions of piston or conrod damage. Do you have the torque setting for them and I'll try and find the time to check it tomorrow. Cheers

yeah there may well be others loose or working loose so well worth checking all of them
remind me tomorrow and il see if ive got the torque setting for them but guessing at around 20nm as that's what most stuff is in the allie head

Cheers bob. Got the torque settings from autodata for the camshaft caps. What a pain in the butt. I'll have a look again for the settings for the pivots in the morning. Cheers.
