What's the best way to prime the pump? I'm not really keen on opening it up, I've heard Of people using vaseline, was thinking about heating it to pouring consistency and pour it down the pump or will a thicker oil be fine

I'm not too sure tbh I've never primed a pump before, hopefully bob will be on later to shed a bit of light on it

tbh they don't really need priming at all as they are self priming

but if your fitting a new one I would just fill it with oil and turn it over by hand a couple of revolutions
that's all we do when building a new engine up and never had a prob with them

Nice one bob, do you think my oil pressure is low?

Just read the other thread and tbh I would say it's a tad on the low side at hot idle
Are you running the stock oil pressure sensor?
These are notoriously inaccurate

Also check the metal sump pan to make sure it's not got a dent in it as the oil pick up only sits 5mm above it so a slight dent can severely effect the pick up.
If alls ok above then I think I would drop the metal oil pan and inspect for any debris and whilst it's off remove the pickup pipe and filter and soak it in petrol and set light to it as this will remove any carbon deposits and possible debris.
If that doesn't work then you may have a little wear on your bearings or a weak oil pump
As long as the pressure rises when under load I wouldn't worry too much at the present time but if you start to hear any knocks then stop using it immediately

No bob it's got a spa gauge, pretty sure it's working fine, the engines a low mileage one which was put on a pallet from japan, it's only done 24k km, oil pump had a crack in it which happen when it got put in my garage so I swapped it over for one I had spare, I have a brand new one on order so going to bang it on to be on the safe side
