I measured 14.3, but because the hub already has less grooves cut in from the original splines it was hard going pulling the new studs with extra splines in. Maybe if I'd used the impact gun it might have been quicker. The big difference was shaving 3mm off the splines less to pull through. Not sure if I'm going to use the spacers though after all this Laughing ended up buying Audi 20mm hubcentric spacers for £17 each, CB 57.1 popped them into lathe and bored out to 59.1 Cool got ally spigot rings to adapt from 57.1 to 72.6 wheel side. Not sure I like the fat ass look Laughing

Any pictures of it with wheels on spaced ?

I pulled the car out to take a pic especially for you Laughing

Haven't put the rear arch trim on yet so might look worse because of that

If I do keep them, the camber definitely need adjusting

Is that right with spacers, you need to adjust camber?

I wouldn't have thought so? If nothing on the suspension has changed, all a spacer is doing is moving the wheel out. Spacer can change other characteristics but not camber I would have thought.

That was my way of thinking as all you are doing is pushing the wheel further out ... not altering the hieght like lowering or owt .....

Thanks and what is adjustable on your suspension ? Do you have camber bolts fitted ? Looks nice but well out of line mate

I've got Bc coilovers and just standard bolts not camber ones. I am thinking possible bearing problem, had similar problem years ago when I clouted a curb in the snow, thought I'd done serious damage turned out bearing collapsed, doh. I'll take spacer off and see how it looks without, still same pop bearing out. All bearings were new when I rebuilt it but who knows!

I haven't done the other side yet, but can't say I've noticed it looking like the photo above, saying that the passenger side looked fine before fitting the spacer. I did higher the coilovers as far too low for my liking on standard wheels, plus couldn't get trolley jack under car Laughing if I've gone too high could this alter the camber? Ive only highered it an inch nothing major.

That will be it then, I'm sure adjusting height will affect your camber.

It currently looks like a Toyota hilux Laughing

Can you use camber bolts on the rears? Or are they only for front suspension.

Yes you can and works better as less stress on them on rear, I used subaru front camber bolts from scrap car as free and bigger and stronger over 12mm type for standard hole (Good 12mm ones fine on rear though really)
Have to mod the top hole for subaru ones though but that easy enough . about 0.75deg-neg not bad on rear for road and should look better and drive better than current setting. as load of new parts and rebuilt needs full alignment done really . due to R's less than amazing handling good setup and good struts can make huge gains in grip and stability and tyre wear lol .
Look bit like a hilux not a bad thing lol .

Will the camber bolts sort my rear wonky wheel out? Or is there too much positive camber on mine that they won't get back to spec?

need measure current camber and also see what likely causing it be off, 1 camber bolt tends give about 1.25deg adjustment at best .

So I've made a new tool

Laughing

Anyway, it shows the wheel in question has 0.76389846 positive camber

OSR has 0.30557459 negative camber but hasn't got a spacer on

Think I'm going to strip the dodgy side down at weekend make sure everything is right.

Calculation I use is:

Inverse Tan (distance plumb line/rim size measured)=degree

Tan -1 (5/375)=0.76389846

Nice template/tool.
That's how all wheel measurements and alignments were done before they had machines and lasers to do them.
I can remember working with an Uncle of mine who used to do wheel alignments like that. I wish I had all his templates now, they were magical items. He used to have boards that would allow you to do headlight directioning as well.

Haha that cool Mr Burrows, always love your tool solutions :-)
obviously something off throw it that far out, from standard setting it about 1.25deg out .
worth checking lateral links hub, strut and top hat. you can gain some by slop in top hat fitting and strut to hub, with BC strut got be curious how accurate jigged so worth comparing all OS to NS for measures .
camber bolts or adjustable top mounts handy for precise adjustment but suspension wants good check be sure nothing out of spec. Done a supra once with similar camber issue and was top hub mount bent just fractionally from curbing impact probably, not visible by eye looking at hub but rule spotted it .

Id like to do the whole things myself, this was an interesting read for some ideas for the diy people

Quite a few interesting ideas on the interwebs, regarding diy wheel alignment. Got the camber idea from a mustang forum. The guy that made his had all the increments in degree's, I couldn't be bothered trying to work that out, so went for mm and a basic trigonometry sum.

I'm interested to see what I've built wrong, hopefully just a blob of paint under strut mount throwing it off?

Good grief Mad  im just glad im not in slapping distance of you lot!  so I found the problem tonight.....

turns out theres camber adjustment on BC struts Laughing

As you can see i had it hard over to the left, pushed the hub over other side and cured the problem Rolling Eyes

randomly the spacer now looks right as well

Still needs adjusting a bit more, running very slight positive camber still, but at least Im on the right path now.

Gaz

No the top hole on the strut is elongated so can move either direction a few mm. I just pushed the hub as far back as I could then tightened standard bolt, it did slip back a little hence the very slight positive camber now. I have ordered some camber bolts so might be easier to get it bang on.
