Shifted from 3rd to 4th quickly and now car is stuck in 4th gear, managed to get car home which was a 20 min drive mostly on motorway. No whines from gearbox , car will only start with clutch pressed and then will only drive when in neutral. Should I rebuild or buy another , thanks

Sounds like selector fork snapped shouldn't be much trouble to replace for somebody who got basic gearbox skills but to be 100% sure you have to open the gearbox first

^ is likely, hopefully is then quite an easy fix/upgrade plus can give the box the once over & refresh any parts as needed.
Not worth buying another box unless after spare parts or planing inspect/refurb it before fitting.
the boxes are very easy to work on so anyone with gearbox experience & not sloppy can do the job.

I would most certainly be getting everything else checked over, may as well take the opportunity while repairing this issue ane prevent other things from occurring down the track.

don't go silly on the clutch or you will have more problems, organic full face or organic segmented sprung plate & decent hd cover is best on road & ceramic 6puk sprung disc if track work etc.
Main thing is check the release arm & pivot ball while out, release arms puncture & bend through the ball pivot area so normally gets plated for strength, pivot balls can be renewed for stronger items & replace flattened nosed old ones.
Billet selector fork not cheap, par about cheapest I believe but twice the price they where few years back :-/

Not decided on clutch but plan is to build a fast road car using a gt2871r, would be happy with about 360 bhp. I'll also renew and use a plated arm , thanks again

Just a quick update, managed to get gearbox off today but nearly give up on that bastard bolt, going to enjoy cutting it off.
While removing the gearbox it seems the transfer case has come apart ( the bit after the end casing ) , is this normal ?,
On the plus side there seems to be a new exedy clutch fitted. Thanks

Do you mean the transfer box has separated from gearbox : /
Or end case of transfer box has come away?
If so did you undo the bolts to the transfer end case by mistake as some people remove the gearbox this way by undoing those bolts withdrawing the diff and leaving the main transfer casing attached to engine and prop

Pic would explain better what you mean

Sorry should have been more clear, had already taken transfer end case off and withdrawn diff, when I started to withdraw gearbox it has pulled the transfer box forward while trying to undo bastard bolt resulting in splitting the rear of transfer box. ( sandwich plate between transfer box and end case) thanks
