Hi guys thought I would just say hello hopefully I will be picking up a GTIR on Tuesday aslong as it's as good as the bloke selling says it is. It will be my first GTIR so there will be plenty of questions. I am a truck mechanic so will be doing the work myself the plan with the car is to obviously check it over do any jobs needed and then get it upto around the 350bhp and then enjoy it and attend as many meets as possible. Its current mods are exhaust system, air filter a piggy back chip and front mount intercooler. I am unsure as to the best way to go about getting to my target horsepower so any suggestions would be great. Thanks guys and I look forward to meeting some of you soon

Hi and welcome.
I was born in Shrewsbury.  Lived in telford and moved to wolverhampton.
Have you a link to the car? Is it a local one for sale?
350bhp from a gtir is where the point of cost rises dramatically.
330/340 bhp can be achieved by fewer mods and a good map.
For 350bhp You will need bigger injectors. Bigger turbo. Uprated afm just to name a few... All depends on how deep your pockets are really.

I haven't got a link to the car I am afraid it's quite a way up north by Middlesbrough. Where did you live in shrewsbury? And your not to far away in Wolverhampton I can annoy you with loads of questions lol

If your goal is around 350 and you don't have a large budget perhaps 330/340 would be ideal like stu says? What's your plans? Welcome btw

I think it would be a good idea to go for 330 to start but I don't really have a fixed budget it really just depends on how the car feels it's always the same you get the car to a certain power level and then you want more. The car is only a weekend toy but at the same time it would be nice to keep it reasonably reliable (as a modified car can be) where I have made the mistake in the past is not having a goal in mind and wasting money, like buying a new turbo and then in a few weeks regretting I didn't buy something with a larger horsepower ability if that makes sense thank you for the welcome. I intend on reading up and getting as much advise as I can off you guys who have been there and done it

Every one on here is helpful, I was in a similar situation when I first bought mine, relying on other peoples information and reading articles etc, I decided to go down the reasonably big power route, it was harder than I first thought, but achievable on a realistic budget, and very satisfying, going over 400bhp in one of these cars is an addictive buzz! But even at 340/360bhp they really are a fantastic road weapon! Just don't give up if and when you have problems, they really are worth the effort pal, I can give any advise iv learned along the way, I still have a lot more to learn though!
