1 MOT questions... on 5th June 2015, 5:51 pm

houghy_1

Sorry if these are really obvious but here goes.

I have a '94 M reg pulsar that will hopefully be getting mot'd soon...
Does it need a cat?? It has a goose on atm.
I'm thinking yes cos it's post '91.
If I do then I need one??
Also if it gets mot'd with just 2 seats in,will it be legal to carry 5 people,Driver included or wil it be classed as only being insured as a 2 seater.
Are doors dropping on worn hinges a fail??
Thanks,matt

I'd say yes on the cat, I can only be tested for what's there so if there's a seat it's got to have a belt, like if you have a spare tyre it needs to be in good condition and usable it if it's not there can't be checked. There some other silly loop holes too.
Find a friendly mot station for emissions bud, the rest should be fine

Leave the seat belts in the rear with the holders when i had my car stripped out they wouldnt pass it without the seatbelts even though it didnt have rear seats ....

Its abit of grey area for uk cars its k plate and under that does not require a cat ... on grey imports emission data isnt released so should only be tested on a basic emissions test as emissions data isnt on the testers system . ...

It should pass as stated above .... go and have a word with the mot testing station your taking it too explain that its an grey import it deosnt have a cat so it should only require a b.e.t. do they have the car on there emissions list i bet the answer is no so will only go for a b.e.t.

Unfortunately you'll need cat for emissions If is registered as 5 people but you'll have only 2 seats and 2 belts tester should advise that passenger seat not present at time of test same with seatbelts and doors if they open from inside and outside no probs there

Mine is a 94 M and if I put it in for a test without a cat it just goes down as an advisory! I had a big discussion with bob about it last year and apparently grey imports get exempt or something, some sort of legislation about them. Anyhow just find a sympathetic MOT tester and you should be OK.

Cos I'm trying to plan ahead which usually first for me.
If I really needed a cat then I'd need delivery and fitting time, but I won't get one and make sure the tester knows the score ,thanks :-)

Major editing done to this thread

Be careful what you write on here guys as it's an open forum and to top it all there's a few malicious people on the other forum Wink that would love to drop members on here in the shit

Mr Mike could get in trouble and lose his license / job for doing such stuff, so no more of that on an open forum please guys, plus the garage he works for could lose their license to carry out mot tests.

Fact is though that a cat is not a legal requirement to get mot on a grey import, there's a big BUT though.......it comes down to mot testers discretion if they are in doubt they will always air on the side of caution and possibly fail the car, better for them to fail it than being dragged over the coals for passing something they should have failed.
And many do not know the law so they are within their rights to fail a car without a cat on a 92> car that should be fitted with one although it's not needed and should only be tested on old non cat co2 and hydrocarbon test which is 3.5%
With regard to seat belts, just leave them fitted in rear without the seats as Leighton said, then no problem at all.

I sold a track car last year fitted full cage with harnesses to front and no seat belts whatsoever front or rear and it genuinely passed, it can not be failed if all is secure and restraining occupants of the car. Because the guy who bought it was a twat it Was picked up by someone on the other forum  Rolling Eyes  that the car had a dodgy mot which was just not the case, actually it failed initially on a tyre and a couple other little bits that I rectified then passed retest genuinely, some of you may remember the thread on here and the oc drink

If Mike can't do it then drop car to me Matt and il get it motd for you so it passes genuinely so drop me a pm and il sort it for you as Mike just works for the garage, not worth the risk to his livlyhood

As said there are malicious, gutless snake like characters watching This forum who would love nothing better for a member on here to lose their job as they've nothing better to do than to stir the shitpot that's the sad sad facts of it guys so be careful what you say on here in future if it's anything a bit naughty Wink
