I have started to think about getting this exhaust welded...
I have lay it down on the ground under the car and the system goes from the tail box. To the decat pipe. Then it has another section of pipe which is 3/4 of a downpipe.
I have a few questions.
Heres the first.
Should I have the 1/4 that is missing off the down pipe. (The elbow part upto the turbo.) Should I have that made up to match the 3" pipe that I already have..? Or just fit the mongoose downpipe.
Second question is this.
The 3 inch pipe goes into the middle silencer and then comes out to 2 1/4 inch pipe that goes all the way to the rear box.
Do I keep it like that or will it cause problems?
Or do o get that section re made out of 3 inch pipe..?
If I use my goose down pipe it will be 2 and 3/4 inch pipe to 3 inch to 2 and 1/4.
Or I could have the elbow made in 3 inch and have 3 inch to the 2 and 14 inch pipe.

Hope I haven't confused anyone. My head is battered lol
Heres some pics to show what I have.
Ignore the stainless pipes.

This is a poor Photoshop of the pipes together.

The green circled bit is the decat and the red circled is the downpipe that has the turbo end missing.

I would just make up the remaining section up to the turbo, that way it's 3 inch rather than the mongoose pipe which is smaller. As for the second question, I guess the exhaust is only going to flow as good as the smallest section?

I will have to cut the pipe and add a flexible aswel I guess.
Think I will take my downpipe off and take it to an exhaust place for them to make it up the same.
Think it's best to take the middle section too so they can cut the smaller diameter pipe off and replace it with 3" so it's all running 3" pipe from turbo to back box.
Should be a decent exhaust then Smile

That's probably what I would do mate. Yeah you will need a Flexi up the front aswell. I took a downpipe to an exhaust place once to get it copied, do you think it was even close when I tried to fit it to the car? Lol

You can buy pipe benders for 140 even cheaper 2nd hand but you can do it with cuts instead of bending the pipe ....or get preformed elbows/angles quite cheap in stainless or mild steel ...

That's how a made all my intercooler piping, brought mandrel bends, cut them up and used a marker and tape to test fit everything, then got someone to tig them. Pretty cheap and easy.

I would keep it as close to how it was designed as possible? Might change the note of the exhaust if you change sizing too much?

Its a miss match at the moment Tom. The rear box has been cut off and smaller pipe welded on and also with the middle section. Someone has really had a bad go at replacing old rotten pipe I think.
I will keep the original 3" from turbo to the middle silencer. But the under sized pipe that someone has welded on I will replace for 3" pipe.

The down pipe is about 20" to short so I will have a flexi welded in and the elbow that's missing I will have one welded on so I can bolt it to the turbo..

Should be as good as new when I have finished Smile

Unless it's designed like that?
My last one had the same sized pipe all along the exhaust.

Yeah its designed to drop from 3" to 2" something as mine was the same as that, although as you said someone had a go at repairing it badly so it may be better to start again.

So looking back on my photobucket this is what it would have originally looked like, it would have been push fit instead of a flange and bolt if you have a look at this...

It just pushed on and had retaining springs on the sides, so it looks like they have welded that dodgy flange onto it to try and make it a better fit?
