After many years away from the original car that got me started messing around with cars some 12/13 years back am considering getting back into it with gtir number 3 . Now as I have been tinkering with cars for years I want one that has all the work done and that is something that has a strong heart with no signs of major rust.
I have a budget of around 6k but could reach close to 7k for the right car. I want something I can enjoy at the weekend and also use on a daily basis. Having a family I don't get the time to spend in the garage .i have a pulsar with a great spec lined up but that is pending an external body looking over underside and making sure there is not terminal rust.
I have just migrated over from gtiroc thanks to Bob .
Anyway please pm me if your considering moving yours on.
Thanks for your time,
Dan

Not sure if that's the type of car your after but it's one of ours, we have around 6 which will all be up for sale this year, already sold 6 too lol

Have a look round the forum there's some great meets and stuff coming up soon and beauty on here is you can turn up In anything you like as although primarily a gtir forum we are all nutty petrolheads so turn up in anything you like (The weirder the better lol)

Thank you for the warm welcome . Having had a look around this forum and I must say it's very busy and well organised !
So keep up the good work . As for what I am looking for ...... As much reliable power as I can get . Ideally a forged engine with a good turbo . Not to bothered about how it looks but the closer to stock the better , a complete interior and most importantly no major chassis rot.
I think that's about it .

With your budget I would consider fresh import for clean rot free car, if get nice low mileage example standard engine can take high 300s if mapped proper and serviced well, hold good resale value too. I have run 2 54c's on standard internals for almost decade no drama, head gasket been done and head refresh but pistons and bottom end fine for most road scenario and light track. Bolt on a gtx turbo, improve exhaust, fuelling etc and you got nice power. Brakes, Modena dif and good suspension make it faster than HP alone.
Good luck and hope you find something good :-)

That's not a bad idea Bob . I will ponder the thought if this car does not work out.
The one I have my eye on is of a very high  specification with a  quaife box 3076 turbo forge internals etc but it's a little rusty on the body .It's been garaged for all of its life and does not get used now.The price is fair and if it is not beyond saving I will take it but that is only if!

Looking over your list of bits Bob I have to say you are a total one stop shop for the gtir  enthusiast. I'm sure I will be wanting a large list of parts from you in the fore seeable future either way .

Thank you for the input so far.

My first r was a near a nut and bolt build with lots of nice parts and my first real project .This had a Dakar box and was over the top quick but lacked cruising . That went to a forum member ,as I was a student back then.

The second was of a high spec but it was rotten it was great fun to drive but the body was poor and underneath was full of rot . This ended up being sold in used and then broken for parts some years later.

So now I want one that does not need lots spending on it to get it up to spec . I don't mind forking out money for tuning and minor body work but that's is . Then the plan is to try and make it as plan looking as possible as I like the sleeper look. I don't know if that's been done before .( make it look like a plan 1.4 sunny ) Anyway I am just sharing my ideas for now.

Thanks again

I will dig out some pho this off my old hard drive some time.
Along with specs . They are both on the gtiroc but the pages are both dead now.

So Johnboy what was the spec of your sleeper and did you ever have any over heating issues ?

Was running just under 300 on a standard engine and 1bar loop.
No overheating probs.
Only mod was air filter and a Pace front mount.
Still had the aircon in and working!!  Shocked
