if you can get some then do it. get as many as possible, If you do find them people will buy them! Smile

uk price should be about £6 each (+post). but i had so much trouble finding them I had to go to usa. my local dealer originally said one week then when we placed the order for 9 of them, i could only have 2 from uk stock and the rest were not possible so got a refund. often what the system says vs physically putting your money down are two different things...

But good luck!

took the main shaft apart to compare new baulk rings etc... i have been scratching my head slightly.

here's why, old on the left, new on the right:

you see the teeth missing?

does not appear to make a difference when measuring it all up and test fitting but strange nevertheless!?!?

Note - The USA Nissan Maxima J30 shares the same gearbox internals as you can see by clicking on any part # on this website:

http://nissan4u.com/parts/sunny/er_n14/1990_10/type_23/power_train/transmission_gear/

I bought a whole bunch of stuff from the USA about 5 years ago because parts were much cheaper and by putting them in my suitcase I had no import tax and VAT. They do things a bit different over there, you can buy a 'kit' which contains all the brass baulk rings and 1st/2nd gear shift springs discounted together. Think it was $140 and i bought a few sets... (~£250 in UK)

I test fitted them on the gear with the syncro hubs and springs and measured them:

I see no reason why i shouldn't fit it.

i've got a few spare sets that i would sell. going to list a whole stack of stuff for sale in the correct for sale area soon, I need to stop hoarding and start selling and/or building...

Those 3 missing teeth are a bit of a head scratcher. scratch
Thats 3 less teeth to take the drive torque.
Only possible reason i can think of is that the boffins at Nissan wanted to reduce the shift engagement force for some reason.

maybe times are hard and they are pinching brass from gears to weigh it in £££? Smile

the inner grooves are slightly different too. i wonder if they come out of a different factory, i.e. an american one... most of the gearbox parts share with various USA altima, maxima, sentra and stanza.

Mreguest's gearbox issues! - Page 2 22777745328_8ae7fab447_zDSC_2375 by edward guest, on Flickr

the grooves are rotated slightly, you see the middle of the three grooves line up with the missing teeth on the new one but line up with the gap on the old one...

33 teeth on old one, 30 teeth on new one. given the short space of time and distance the outer synchro hub/ring thingy takes to snap from gear to gear i can't imagine it makes any detrimental difference.

just briefly googling "where is nissan stuff made?" i found this:
http://www.nissanusa.com/about/heritage

by 1992 they'd done 2 million sentras and 1993 they made/sold the 1 millionth maxima, all built in tenessee USA...

interesting Question
