I think the one I bought on eBay was for the Elgrande but it's too big. It did however come with the blue bulb shown in the photo. I've now got a GTIR one. I need to get a working bulb and cable fitting for it. The blue one in my photos fits the ring, but I don't have the cable fitting. I might pop into Nissan and see what they can do...

the bulb going be jellybean part, r33 has bulb with female plug like in your image, earlier skyline has same bulb lock and twisk fitting but a harness tail rather than female socket moulded directly in back, load of other nissans or jap cars likely share it or something close enough only need plug/harness changed/tweaked .

Finally got round to fitting this...
I sourced a bulb and harness from a skyline R33 and as Mr B suggested, it fits.
Took positive from permanent supply to radio and ground spurred off the door trigger wire that I traced back to the front drivers foot well.
Hey presto...

Was fairly straightforward once I knew which wires I need to tap into. The bulb had a plastic blue cap on I assume the give the colour a shade of blue, but it made it quite dim, so I removed it and just have a normal light which is much brighter.
In the process of fitting, I also found my cigarette lighter has an illuminated surround but the bulb had blown, so changed that as well!

Tidy work there. You would never know it is not factory. Always nice to make a tidy harness too. No messy wiring. Everything is coming together for you these days now.

Nice work mate, looks a nice tidy job, did you have to modify the black plastic surround on the ignition barrel?.

I managed to get the proper black surround and ring (has Jap writing on the back) from Bob. It's exactly the same as the OEM one just with a slightly bigger hole (roughly 3-5mm wider in diameter).
I just needed the bulb assembly / holder which I got from a skyline.
Before I managed to get the correct black surround, I was going to cut out a bigger hole from the OEM one by securing it to a block of wood and then the correct size hole saw. But didn't need to in the end

Ah, that answers my question, thanks, I've got an illuminated ring from a 300zx to go in, I just need to get the plastic surround.

I don't know if there has ever been any conclusive answer to whether or not they were factory fitted, but the plastic surround on mine is identical to the standard one, it just has a slightly bigger hole
