So photobucket are now charging us to host our pictures.
Its now just over £300 a year to use photobucket for 3rd party hosting.

I have been using them since 2004 to host my pictures on forums so all my pictures are on their site. Thats thousands of pictures.
Now I can't share them as I used to so all my posts on forums now don't have a picture of mine.

I need to find a free hosting site because a lot of how to guides on here will be affected.

Yeah it's screwed so many people/ forums. I never realised how many people used it, until I'm browsing the web and every forum is missing pictures now.

They can not leave nowt alone and once it's popular the charges follow I never even check pistonheads now general car prices etc as was not a lot on when they started to charge ( might of kept some of the shit cars or idiots off) .unless staff have to govern all pictures on photo bucket or something ? Why charge

If serious about your images you best buying a web domain and hosting package as super cheap and you 100% in control .
Best if site had some capacity for storing own image files as only way keep threads useful over long time.
Many useful info been lost through these cocks, hopefully people learn something from it .
Best free option in my opinion for forum use is http://www.postimage.org/
Fortunately I never keen on photobucket from the start.
Google drive pretty useful too but can not direct link an embedded image via it .

I down loaded all my albums off photobucket yesterday. Over 2000 images lol

I better start doing my Facebook ones as that's another minefield of photos lost if they start host charging.

can't believe photofuckit has screwed everyone... to be honest photobucket has always been a bit rubbish interface wise but there used to be no competition... I have used flickr for years now which is really good. especially for resizing photos for forums etc.

wouldn't be surprised if flickr eventually charge. there's no advertising, they don't make any money, I don't see what is in it for them, simply owned by yahoo... I store thousands of files and pay them nothing? not the best business model Smile

I've looked in to hosting my own from a network attached storage drive (NAS) which should be easy if you understand the technical jargon, i don't?:

Good luck with it all!

Pretty easy use a domain for file storage within limits, as long domain hosting got sensible GB capacity and bandwidth allowance you good to go with any basic FTP client and can use likes of dreamweaver joomla or wordpress make a front end to it, plus with domain hosting is decent personal email thrown in also with auto forwarders and auto replying rules etc .
Most of the free stuff going screw you one way or the other .

It's browser addon app that bypasses the photobucket ransom message and should fish out the hotlink for the image thus the images displayed as normal .

I tried chrome one in chromeportable back in august.
What is state of old photobucket images on this site, have you run some script clean them from threads as see some threads such as burrows has no pics in pic spot and enbedded image code gone if llok at page code .

EDIT

just checked the chrome addon and it still works fine and loads images perfectly :-)
Not tried on our site as threads I remember having photobucket images all seem have images stripped out !

EDIT 2

just tried it on firefox 55 and it works also
addon won't load on older 47 version on my notebook but will see if can mod xpi to make it load on older firefox

I used it on chrome 60.0.3112.90 and Firefox55
it was portable builds (portableapps)but shouldn't matter

test image below
http://i164.photo+bucket.com/albums/u9/VKZ24/Workshop/P1050327.jpg

You'll have to remove the + between photobucket from the link, had do that as this site auto removes photobucket link from all posts .

I got it work fine in pc browser firefox or chrome.
Problem is it no benefit to our site as site hosting illiweb has removed all the photobucket links with a script and replace them with following gif (found this by viewing page source code of old threads that did have photobucket images)
https://illiweb.com/fa/pbucket.gif

If this had not been done I could of retrieved any important pics easily and relevant threads updated .
Quite a shame and shows you how fragile internet info is .

If anyone has links to gtir related photobucket images they want me try and recover PM me about it and i'll see if can view and rip them and upload elsewhere .
